PETALUMA, CA — A Sonoma man is accused of driving under the influence of drugs Halloween night in Petaluma.

Officers were dispatched shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday to a report of a driver who was possibly intoxicated and driving erratically in the area of East Washington Street and Sonoma Mountain Parkway.

An officer found the driver — identified as Cesar Godinez, 20, or Sonoma — in the parking lot of a gas station at North McDowell Boulevard and East Washington.

"Officers observed Godinez displaying objective signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance," Petaluma police Sgt. Ryan Suhrke said. "Officers subsequently conducted a DUI investigation and determined he had been operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance and was arrested."

It is alleged he had large amounts of suspected Xanax, marijuana and cash in his car, along with a ski mask and a replica gun.

Police impounded Godinez's car, and he was booked into Sonoma County jail on suspicion of DUI drugs, violation of a court order, possession of narcotics for sale, and possession of marijuana for sale.

Jail records indicated Godinez was still behind bars Friday.
