Coroner Identifies Man Killed In Crash West Of Petaluma

The fatal crash on Bodega Avenue involved one car and may have happened because of a medical issue, the CHP said.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A man who died in a solo-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon in an unincorporated area west of Petaluma was identified Thursday morning by the Sonoma County Sheriff-Coroner's Office as Danny R. Reno, 69, of Gualala.

The fatal crash was reported at 2:16 p.m. Wednesday at 6015 Bodega Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP Officer David deRutte said Reno was driving a silver Toyota Prius eastbound on Bodega Avenue east of Middle 2 Rock Road when, for reasons not yet determined, the car veered off the roadway.

"The Toyota continued on the right shoulder for a short distance until reentering the roadway to the left," deRutte said. "The Toyota rolled and came to rest on its left side in the eastbound lane."

Reno and a woman riding in the passenger seat were still inside the car when emergency personnel arrived.

Reno suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, deRutte said.

The woman was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, according to the CHP.

DeRutte said the crash may have happened because of a medical issue.
