Meet Cash, Newest Member Of The Petaluma Police Department

The Petaluma Police Department welcomes its newest canine unit.

PETALUMA, CA— The Petaluma Police Department invites the community to help welcome Cash, the newest four-legged member of the force.

Officer Brandon Hansen is Cash's handler, and together they make up the Petaluma Police Department's newest K-9 unit.

Cash is 2 years old and, similar to previous Petaluma Police Department canines, is a Belgian Malinois.

Currently, Cash is training to become certified in handler protection, suspect apprehension, article searches and narcotics detection. Upon completion of the certification program, Hansen and Cashwill rotate to a normal patrol shift and be subject to call outs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including being accessible for multi-agency collaboration.

Petaluma PD says that once coronavirus social distancing orders start to loosen, the public will have an opportunity to meet Cash whether it be during a school function, at National Night Out or as part of other community events.
