Meth, Gun Found In Petaluma Traffic Stop: Police

The driver, a man on parole out of Oregon, was stopped late Wednesday night by a K-9 officer, police said.

PETALUMA, CA — An Oregon parolee was arrested Wednesday night in a Petaluma traffic stop. A K-9 officer stopped 64-year-old Danny Michael Saunders for a traffic violation at 11:37 p.m. in the 300 block of S. McDowell Blvd., officials with the Petaluma Police Department said in a news release.

Upon determining the driver was on current parole out of Oregon, the officer searched Saunders' person and found a small amount of methamphetamine in his pants pocket, police said.

The officer also found an unloaded handgun and a box of ammunition inside a duffel bag on the passenger seat of Saunders' car, police said.

Saunders was placed under arrest and taken to the Petaluma Police Department, then to Sonoma County jail where he was booked on suspicion of possession of narcotics, being a felon in possession of a firearm and other parole violations, according to police.

Bail was set at $30,000 for Saunders pending a court appearance set for Friday, jail records showed.
