Mobile Crane Rollover: Power Lines Down, Roblar Road Blocked
TRAFFIC ADVISORY: CHP says the Sonoma County roadway may be closed for another full day.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — The California Highway Patrol expects Roblar Road to remain closed between Canfield Road and Valley Ford Road until sometime Wednesday after a large mobile crane crashed and overturned, taking down power and phone lines. CHP Officer Jonathan Sloat said dispatchers were notified at 6:35 a.m. Tuesday of a big rig crash involving downed live wires on Roblar at the intersection of Canfield — west of Rohnert Park and Petaluma.
"It was determined a large mobile crane was traveling westbound on Roblar Road, west of Canfield Road, when its right rear wheel slipped off of the paved portion of the road," Sloat said. "Due to the weight of the vehicle (approximately 150,000 pounds) it began to slide down the north embankment ... As it overturned it snapped a PG&E pole and severed phone and electrical wires."
The driver escaped injury-free, Sloat said.

As of 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, Roblar remained closed to through traffic at Canfield Road, and, on the west side, at Valley Ford Road.
"It is anticipated that this closure will be in effect for at least one more full day while the crane is removed and repairs are made to the utility poles and wires," Sloat said.
