Motorcyclist Killed In Head-On Collision On Tomales Petaluma Road

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A motorcyclist was killed in a head-on collision Friday on Tomales Petaluma Road in Sonoma County, authorities said.

Emergency personnel with Santa Rosa and Marin California Highway Patrol, Tomales Fire Department and U.S. Coast Guard Fire responded to the crash which was reported at 11:52 a.m. on Tomales Petaluma Road west of Alexander Road, near Twin Bridge Road.

The male motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by fire personnel.

The CHP believes the BMW motorcycle rider was traveling eastbound at an unsafe speed and a Dodge pickup truck pulling a 25-foot travel trailer was going westbound when the motorcyclist lost control on a curve in the roadway.

"The motorcyclist crossed into the opposing lane, directly in front of the Dodge," CHP Officer David deRutte said. "A head-on collision occurred and the motorcyclist was ejected off the motorcycle."

There motorcyclist's name was not released pending the notification of his next of kin.

There were two people in the Dodge; a male driver who was not injured and a female passenger who went to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Tomales Petaluma Road was closed for nearly three hours as a result of the crash.
