New Crossroads Principal Has Local Ties

The Petaluma City Schools tapped a local to head an alternative school.

Rebecca Lofton, a lifelong Petaluma resident who was educated and has worked in local schools for most of her career, has been named Crossroads' new principal.

Lofton took over the top post at the Petaluma alternative middle school on Monday.

Lofton has been a San Antonio High social science teacher since 2008. She also taught advanced placement and college prep United States history at Petaluma High.

She's assumed teacher-leadership roles at both schools, serving as a site representative for the District Leadership Committee. Lofton was also involved in the Common Core State Standard role out. 

Lofton received her Master’s degree in education and administrative credential at Sonoma State, where she also completed her bachelor's degree in history and single-subject credential.

Lofton was introduced to the Board of Education on Monday.

"(Lofton) is excited to begin her new position at Crossroads Community School and continue to meet the unique needs of students in an alternative school setting," the district said in a prepared statement announcing Lofton's hiring on Wednesday.

"She is passionate and dedicated to alternative education is thrilled that she will be able to continue that work in a new role and setting."
