The musical tells the story of the adventurous Petaluma Sky Pilots through a fantasy-filled view of the Victorian-era inventions such as steam-powered velocipedes, dirigibles and other gadgets. The production takes its name from a genre which came into prominence during the 1980s and early 1990s and incorporates elements of science fiction, fantasy, alternate history, horror, and speculative fiction.
"Steampunk" narratives--whether in movies, plays or books-- involve settings where steam power is widely used—whether in Britain's Victorian era or America's Wild West and is based on a Victorian perspective on fashion, culture and art.
