Officers Rescue Person Threatening To Jump Off Petaluma Building
The incident began at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday at the C Street parking garage, Petaluma police said.

PETALUMA, CA — A person who threatened to take their own life early Thursday in Petaluma by jumping off the top story of the C Street parking garage was brought to safety by Petaluma police officers. The incident was first reported at about 1:34 a.m. Thursday, police said in a news release.
Officers arrived and found the person standing on an exterior ledge of the top floor of the northeast corner of the parking garage. The officers reportedly took turns negotiating with the victim, encouraging them to climb over a wall away from the ledge.
When a family member arrived on scene, the person agreed to come off the ledge once officers had backed up to a nearby stairwell, police said.

While speaking with the family member the victim suddenly attempted to jump off the garage and became involved in physical altercation with the family member, according to police.
When officers saw the victim hanging upside down with one leg over the ledge ran, they ran over and pulled the victim to safety.

The victim was detained without incident and placed on a psychiatric hold for a mental health evaluation at a local hospital, police said.
