Old Goodwill Building to Open as Asian Home Decor Store

The old Goodwill building on Petaluma Boulevard North and East Washington Street that four years ago sustained major fire damage, will open this August as a furniture store, according to an article in Thursday’s Argus Courier.

The 140-year-old, historic building will become Old Shanghai Home Décor, an Asian gift, apparel and accessories retailer that now has three stores in San Francisco’s Chinatown as well as an online storefront.

The upstairs will become a loft apartment, while the basement will possibly hold a coffee shop. Both will look out on the Petaluma River and have access to Water Street.

“I have always liked Petaluma because of the small-town atmosphere and beautiful antique shops and delicious restaurants downtown,” the owner, Andrew Tam told the Courier. “This gave me the idea of branching out to this area to showcase something different — Asian home decor and accessories.”

The building will be constructed to replicate some of the original exterior design, including the transom windows and cornices with corbels.
