PETALUMA, CA — Onita Pellegrini, chief executive officer of the Petaluma Area Chamber of Commerce for 25 years, was selected today by Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, as 2019 Woman of the Year for Sonoma County.

“Under Onita’s leadership, Petaluma businesses have a strong voice in the community, allowing them to thrive and give back to residents in so many ways,” Sen. Dodd said. “Her vision and energy make Petaluma a better place for all. I commend her on her dedication and service.”

Onita was appointed in 1994. She has owned a real estate agency and a gas station. She also was a legislative aide for Assemblymember Bev Hansen and once ran for Sonoma County supervisor. She credits the experience with heightening her interest in politics and giving back to her community.

As chamber CEO, she forged solid relationships with the City Council and elected officials. She has overseen production of an annual business directory and community guide, street maps and other useful publications. She’s been involved in events such as the Petaluma River Craft Beer Festival and the Community Awards of Excellence, showcasing business and community leaders. She’s also helped foster numerous educational and leadership programs.

“I am thrilled to receive this award from Sen. Dodd,” Onita said. “Petaluma and the business community continue to be my passion. I am grateful to be able to give back to my community in this way.”
