"Passover in the Matzah Aisle" Comes to Sonoma County

Shoppers, come for a taste of Passover at various Supermarkets in Sonoma County

The Jewish holiday of Passover begins on April 22 this year, and for all those hosting or attending the festive meal known as the Passover Seder who might have questions, there’s a new resource in town. Big Tent Judaism Concierge Carol Appel will be at five different supermarkets on six different days before the holidays, to offer a taste (and recipe!) of a traditional holiday dish, answer any questions shoppers might have about the holiday, host a raffle for a beautiful gift basket, and give families a take-home Passover coloring placemat.

Carol serves as the friendly welcoming face of the Jewish community for anyone and everyone interested. “As the Concierge for Jewish life, I’m here to help people find their own meaning and benefit in the rituals and traditions of our heritage,” Carol explains. “Even a quick two-minute conversation and a taste of a holiday dish is one moment in time that may add to your understanding of the holiday. I’m also available to guide people to future programs and events based on their own interests and needs, if they want to dig deeper – but there’s never any pressure to do so!”

Carol works for Big Tent Judaism, an independent non-denominational organization that seeks to share the value of organized Jewish communal life with all who might benefit. She coordinates her efforts with the entire Jewish community, including synagogues and all the many Jewish agencies of Sonoma County. Her programs and services are provided free of charge, thanks to the support of the Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties.
