Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Car On Old Redwood Highway

One pedestrian died and another suffered major injuries when they were struck by a car as they tried to cross the roadway, the CHP said.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — One person was killed and another person was hospitalized when they were struck by a car Sunday night in Penngrove, the California Highway Patrol said.

Santa Rosa CHP officers responded at 7:56 p.m. Sunday to a crash between a car and two pedestrians at 5736 Old Redwood Highway, CHP Officer David deRutte said.

A Hyundai Veloster hatchback occupied by two people was traveling northbound on Old Redwood Highway and the two pedestrians were attempting to walk from a parking lot of an establishment across Old Redwood Highway when they were struck by the Hyundai, deRutte said.

One of the pedestrians, a 73-year-old man from Sebastopol, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP.

The second pedestrian, a 66-year-old woman from Sebastopol, suffered major injuries and was rushed to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

The Hyundai driver and the passenger in the Hyundai were not injured and the CHP determined the Hyundai driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
