Petaluma Firefighters Battle Blaze In Three-Story Building

A malfunctioning bathroom fan is the likely cause of a fire that started in a multi-unit residential building in Petaluma Saturday night.

PETALUMA, CA — A malfunctioning bathroom fan is the likely cause of a fire that started in a multi-unit residential building in Petaluma Saturday night, according to fire officials.

Firefighters responded to a fire alarm at 205 West Payran St., near Petaluma Boulevard North, at about 6:12 p.m. Saturday.

Upon investigation, firefighters determined that a fire was burning in a bathroom on the first floor of the three-story building, the first floor being commercial space with the other floors being residential.

Firefighters battled the fire and prevented it from spreading to the rest of the building. About 15 people were temporarily displaced as a result of the fire.

An electrician was on the scene at the time firefighters were there to make a repair to the electrical issue with the ceiling fan.

The fire was under control at 6:48 p.m. and no one was injured.
