Petaluma Man Crashes Car Into Redwood Tree, DUI Suspected: Police

A 48-year-old man is accused of DUI and hit and run after he left his car in a roundabout where it hit a tree, police said.

PETALUMA, CA — A Petaluma man was arrested on suspicion of DUI and hit and run early in connection with a crash early Sunday morning, police said.

Petaluma police and fire personnel were sent at 5:20 a.m. Sunday to the intersection of Ely Boulevard South and Casa Grande Road where it was reported that a car had crashed into a redwood tree in the roundabout, Petaluma police Sgt. Mario Giomi said.

Officers found a gray BMW sedan in the roundabout, with significant damage to the car.

A witness reported the driver had taken off on foot but there was female passenger who remained at the scene.

The passenger was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for medical evaluation.

Police identified the driver as Daniel Bagley, 48, of Petaluma.

"Officers located Bagley at his residence and observed injuries consistent with the collision which were also described by the passenger," Giomi said. "Bagley showed objective signs of intoxication and was subsequently placed under arrest for DUI."

Bagley was taken to a hospital for medical clearance, then was booked into Sonoma County jail, police said.
