Petaluma Man Dies From Apparent Suicide At Steamer Landing
Witnesses saw the 78-year-old gentleman park his car, leave a note on his windshield, place a tarp on the ground and then heard a gunshot.

Petaluma police were called Saturday at 9:40 a.m. to Steamer Landing on Copeland Street and found wrapped in a tarp a deceased man, who appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, in the parking lot.
Witnesses reported they saw the man park his vehicle in the parking lot, turn on his emergency flashers, and place a note on the window. He then placed a tarp on the ground in front of his vehicle.
The witnesses called 9-1-1 when they heard a gunshot, police said.

Responding officers found a 78-year-old Petaluma man wrapped in the tarp and determined he died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The note on the window said, “Call Police.”
The park was closed for approximately two hours while investigators from the police department and Coroner’s Office conducted the investigation.

The name of the deceased person will not be released by the Petaluma Police Department.
The Coroner’s Office will handle notification to family members and will respond to any further inquiries, authorities said.
