Petaluma Teen Headed to World Racquetball Championships
Seventeen-year-old Sawyer Lloyd trains at Petaluma Valley Athletic Club
Sawyer Lloyd, a 17-year-old from Petaluma, will be representing the U.S. at the World Racquetball Championships this November, after taking gold at last month’s national competition.
Lloyd trains at the and has been playing racquetball since he was nine years old.
“He is very coachable, he takes the initiative to do extra practice whereas a lot of other players just play once a week,” says coach Brian Dixon. “Even when he was just getting into it, he was calling me and saying I need to work on this or that. That’s what sets him apart.”

At nationals, Lloyd, who attends Summerfield School in Santa Rosa, won first place in doubles and third place in singles. He will represent Team USA as part of the 16 and under doubles team and be the back up in singles if anything happens to the #1 or #2 player. This will be Lloyd's third time attending the World Championships.
