Play About Polly Klaas Looks at How We Cope With Tragedy

Written by childhood friend of Klaas; showing at Main Stage West in Sebastopol.

A childhood friend of Polly Klaas has written a moving play that explores the impact of the tragedy, a piece that debuted in New York City in 2008 and is now coming to Sonoma County.

“Fault Lines” by Rebecca Miller is a fictional account of three friends reuniting 20 years later to discuss how the kidnapping and murder of their friend altered their lives, according to an article in this week’s Bohemian.

The play is as much about the Klaas case as a meditation on how people process traumatic events, grieving privately and publically and making sense of something as unspeakable as a child’s murder. "Fault Lines" received glowing reviews when it played to New York City audiences, but this is the first time the production comes to Sonoma County, where audiences have a much more personal connection to the story.
