Petaluma Police Arrest DUI Suspect After Fatal Crash
A 21-year-old man was arrested in connection with a collision that left a 52-year-old man dead.
PETALUMA, CA — A 21-year-old man was arrested in connection with a collision that left a 52-year-old man dead Saturday and shut down a portion of Stoney Point Road until late Sunday morning.
Just before midnight, police said Austin Matsler-David was driving southbound in a Honda Civic when he crossed into oncoming traffic, the Petaluma Police Department said in a statement.
Matsler-David's Honda reportedly collided with a Ford F-150 pickup truck heading northbound, police said. The truck rolled several times and a 52-year-old man was ejected.

Meanwhile, Matsler-David's Honda continued southbound on the east shoulder, launching over a K-rail barrier and into the creek. He was transported to Memorial Hospital.
While giving medical aid to the suspect, an officer "noticed an odor of alcholic beverage coming from him."

After conducting a driving under the influence investigation, officers arrested him. Matsler-David was booked into the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility in connection with a felony DUI and Vehicular Manslaughter while intoxicated, police said.
The identity of the victim has not been released pending next of kin.
