Possible Mail Theft Investigated In Petaluma: Police

A resident reported that after confronting a woman at her doorstep, she noticed a piece of outgoing mail was missing from her mailbox.

PETALUMA, CA — The Petaluma Police Department is seeking to identify a woman in connection with a possible mail theft earlier this week in West Petaluma. A resident in the 700 block of Mountain View Avenue told police that around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, a woman she did not believe lived in the area came to her doorstep and asked if the previous homeowner still lived at the home.

When confronted by the resident, the woman reportedly got into a green or blue late-1990s' model BMW coupe and drove away.

The resident told police that later, when she checked her mailbox, she discovered an outgoing letter containing confidential, personal information was missing, police said.
