Proposed Petaluma Walgreens Nixed

The Petaluma Health Care District's plan to build a Walgreens at Lynch Creek Way was rejected by the Planning Commission.

The Planning Commission on Tuesday voted down a Petaluma Health Care District's proposal to build a Walgreens, the Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports.

The PHCD needed the commission to rezone a Lynch Creek Way parcel for mixed-use, allowing for retail. The parcel is currently zoned for use as business park space.

The PHCD can appeal the ruling to the City Council later this year.

Newly appointed commissioner J.T. Wick said that amending the city's General Plan is a hurdle that the PHCD proposal failed to overcome, according the Press Democrat report.

“It should only be done if there is an exceptional, important and substantial reason,” Wick said. “I just don’t see that here.”
