Renovated Miwok Valley Language Academy opens for students

Alten Construction, Quattrocchi Kwok Architects and Greystone West Company completed renovations on the Miwok Valley Language Academy.

Students started school at the newly renovated Miwok Valley Language Academy on Wednesday, Aug. 17, a project that was completed by full-service San Francisco Bay area commercial construction company Alten Construction (AltenConstruction.com), Quattrocchi Kwok Architects and Greystone West Company.

The fast-tracked project began when the school year ended in June, and the entire modernization was completed in only 75 days. Renovation of five 1972 campus buildings totaling 31,456 square feet included 15 classrooms and six bathrooms.

The remodel incorporated new roofing, windows, heating, cooling and technology. Alten Construction worked with heating and air-conditioning subcontractor Bell Products and electrical subcontractor R. McClure Electric. Finishes were also modernized throughout the school, from wall coverings and carpet to doors and cabinets.

“We’ve been working 12-hour days, seven days a week since June,” said Alten Construction Vice President of Operations Andrew Nortz. “Walking away from this remodel, there’s just such a dramatic difference. It’s night and day from when we got here. This campus looks amazing.”

Miwok Valley Language Academy, which is part of the Old Adobe Union School District, was named a California Distinguished School in 1992. The school has a world languages focus and is an EL Education Partner School, an educational division of Outward Bound.

“The transformation of the physical structure of Miwok Valley reflects the transformative work that teachers and students engage in throughout the year,” said Brett Wilson, principal of Miwok Valley. “We are excited about the new campus and are ready to fill it with the spirit of our Miwok community.”

Over 370 students from transitional kindergarten through sixth grade will attend school at the modernized Miwok Valley this year.

“The new space honors the hard work and commitment of our teachers, students and families,” said Wilson. “They are well-deserving of a beautiful, environmentally friendly place in which to learn.”

Miwok Valley Language Academy staff and teachers will hold an open house to the public on Tuesday, Aug. 30 at from 5:15 - 7 p.m.
