LAGUNITAS, CA — Three men were killed in a crash on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard near Samuel P. Taylor State Park in rural West Marin County early Tuesday, according to the California Highway Patrol's Marin County division.
Authorities were called to the scene of the single car crash around 12:15 a.m. A passerby who came upon the collision called 911 and said the vehicle had major damage after crashing into several "fixed objects," according to the CHP.
The Marin County Sheriff's Office has identified the victims as Chance Pierre Muerer, 18, of Novato, Lancelot Mattaeus Argall, 18, of San Anselmo and Chancellor Grier Argall, 20, of Woodacre. Lancelot and Chancellor Argall are brothers. The sheriff's office said that due to the severity of the wreckage, it took an extended period of time to extricate the victims.

According to the CHP, the 2013 Toyota Corolla involved in the crash was going west on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard when the driver allowed the car to go into the eastbound lane and off the roadway where it struck a power pole and two trees. The CHP said it was still investigating why the car traveled into the eastbound lane.
All three victims were wearing seatbelts, the sheriff's office said.

Based on the damage to the car, the CHP said it appears that the car traveled off the roadway at a high rate of speed. It is not known if drugs or alcohol played a part in the collision. A toxicology report will be conducted to determine if the driver was impaired at the time of the crash, the CHP said.
Authorities have identified Muerer as the driver of the Corolla. Post mortem examinations and toxicology exams have been scheduled for later this week.
Sir Francis Drake Boulevard has since reopened and PG&E was called to the scene to repair a power pole support beam that was destroyed in the crash. The cause and manner of death will be determined pending toxicology results and the conclusion of the CHP investigation.
