Sonoma County Gets $4.2M In Federal Funding For Bodega Bay Dredging

The last time dredging took place at Bodega Bay, the county's center for commercial and sport fishing industries, was in 2004.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has earmarked $4.2 million for maintenance dredging of the interior channel of Bodega Bay.

Bodega Bay's Operations and Maintenance schedule includes periodic inspection and repair of three breakwaters and an 11-year cycle of maintenance dredging of the Federal Channel to a depth of 12 feet, Sonoma County officials said.

Recent sounding surveys show shoaling -- a growing mound of sediment -- is occurring and the dredging is required, Deputy County Administrator Rebecca Wachsberg said.
