Fires Close Sonoma County Schools, Colleges For Second Day

BREAKING: School districts in Sonoma County were closed Monday and will be closed again Tuesday.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — Many North Bay schools that closed Monday as a result of multiple wildfires burning in the region will remain closed Tuesday, including Sonoma State University and all schools in the Santa Rosa City Schools District.

Closures Tuesday include Petaluma City Schools and districts in Waugh, Cinnabar, Liberty, Forestville, Gravenstein, Healdsburg, Twin Hills, Sebastopol Union, Monte Rio, Dunham, Geyserville, Kenwood, Bennett Valley, Alexander Valley, Mark West Springs, Windsor and Cloverdale.

Basically, all public schools in Sonoma County with the exception of those in the North Coast, are closed Tuesday, officials say.

Santa Rosa Junior College campuses will also remain closed.

By mid-day Monday, the Tubbs Fire stretching between Calistoga and Santa Rosa had grown to a combined 25,000 acres in size, with zero containment. The Nuns Fire near Glen Ellen was an estimated 5,000 acres mid-day Monday, with multiple other fires burning in Sonoma and Napa counties.

Some 1,500 homes and structures have been lost to the fires since Sunday night in the two counties.
