PETALUMA, CA — Petalumans should be prepared for traffic delays starting Monday, June 3 when work on the Sonoma Mountain Parkway roadway reconstruction project is set to get underway. Traffic will be shifted to one lane in each direction for the duration of the project, with an anticipated completion date of Aug. 7, officials with the Petaluma Police Department said in a news release.

Southbound Sonoma Mountain Parkway will be closed June 3 through July 4 and northbound Sonoma Mountain Parkway will be closed July 5 through Aug. 7, according to the city's anticipated construction schedule. During this time, traffic signals in the work zone will be in flash (all-way stop) mode and a construction-zone speed limit of 25 mph will be in effect, 24 hours a day.

The project has been planned in phases to make sure residents will have access to their driveways, according to police; when necessary, detours will provide access to area roads.

"While the City of Petaluma - Public Works and Utilities Department has taken extensive steps to reduce disruption, this roadway project will cause delays," police officials said. "Community members are encouraged to look for alternate routes when possible. Please slow down in the construction zone for everyone’s safety. We appreciate your patience!"

Police said more information about the project can be found on the city's website, and that questions can be directed to project manager Jeff Stutsman at 707-776-3673 or Jstutsman@cityofpetaluma.org.
