the German Language School of Marin

Language and More:

Founded in 1967, the German Language School of Marin boasts almost half a century of teaching how to speak, read and write German. In addition, furthering German customs and culture is a large part of our mission both within class and during our special events: German movie afternoons, Lantern walk for St. Martin’s Day, Weihnachtsfeier (Christmas Party) to name a few. We even have a library with German books and seasonal specialties.

Curriculum and Testing:

Currently we are the only German-teaching institution in Marin County. We offer classes for all age groups (children to adults) and at all levels. We teach 11 classes at our two locations (Novato and, new in 2014, Santa Rosa). We also offer preparation for the AATG, A2, DSD I & II and AP exams, all of which (except the AP test) can be taken through our school. Most tests can be applicable for college credit both in the U.S. and in Germany.

Recent studies show that speaking an additional language is beneficial in so many ways, not only for travel or connecting with relatives abroad. Learning a second language also increases critical thinking skills, creativity, and flexibility of mind especially in young children.
