Suspect In Toddler Killing Arrested In North Bay

PETALUMA, CA — A man suspected of killing a toddler was arrested last week in the North Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area, authorities announced.

Police issued a warrant for Fernando Lugo-Garcia, who is accused of killing a 2-year-old during a March 23 shooting in Clearlake, a city in Lake County, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office.

The Clearlake Police Department and the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office's Violent Crime Investigations Unit worked together to find Lugo-Garcia around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Petaluma, according to the sheriff's office. He was booked into the Lake County Jail on suspicion of murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and other firearm-related offenses.

"The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office values its relationship with the Clearlake Police and is dedicated to assisting other agencies in the pursuit of violent criminals," the sheriff's office wrote on Facebook. "Our sincere thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the child in this senseless case of violence."
