Suspected DUI Arrest Follows Collision In Petaluma

The 70-year-old motorist's truck hit a parked car and flipped on its side Friday night, police said.

PETALUMA, CA – A Petaluma man was arrested for suspected driving under the influence Friday night after his truck smashed into a parked car and rolled on its side in Petaluma, police said.

Officers responded at 8:45 p.m. to the 700 block of Elm Drive where a newer model Chevy pickup was on its side, and the driver, John Edward Barella, 70, was trapped in the passenger compartment, the Petaluma Police Department said.

"It was determined Barella was traveling southbound on Elm Drive and collided with a parked car," the department said. "As a result of the collision, the parked vehicle was turned perpendicular in the roadway, and Barella’s vehicle rolled onto its side."

Petaluma Fire Department crews extricated Barella from the truck, and as he reportedly showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol, he was arrested for suspected DUI, police said.
