The One-Hour-Short Weekend in Petaluma
You can fill your Saturday, from breakfast to encore, from the listings in the Patch calendar.

With a weather report like this, staying home is out of the question - unless you're getting the veggies planted in your backyard garden. Even so, there are things to distract you all day long on Saturday, from breakfast to late-night music.
Did somebody say breakfast? Join the kids and parents of River Montessori Charter School for their annual Pancake Breakfast tomorrow, Saturday, at Applebee's. Enjoy a delicious breakfast of pancakes, bacon, potatoes, coffee and orange juice is support of the school. Breakfast is $12/adult and $6/child, time is 8 a.m. to 10.

Also Saturday the Petaluma Parent Nursery School is throwing a K starting at 11 a.m. at the McKinley Elementary School auditorium. It's a throw-back kind of event - pan for gold then spend it at the general store, play games, do crafts, sing songs, plus food, a raffle, a silent auction and even a Cake Walk. "Cowpokes" (ages 2-8) $5, but their "Handlers" are free. Proceeds benefit PPNS, a cooperative Preschool for children ages 18mos - 5yrs.
But enough about the kids. From noon on, it's all about the food. (Nothing against breakfast at Applebee's, folks.) Italian restaurant Risibisi holds a Lean Butchering & Pasta Making seminar for some hands-on experience in carving salmon, chicken or rabbit, then turns to even leaner fare with hand-rolled pasta making. Price of the class is $65, and it includes one glass of prosecco, a packet of all the recipes and a sit-down lunch to try what you've prepared.

Whether you're hiking in this fab weather or working in the garden, do you ever wonder what those birds are talking about? They flit here and there, sound alarms, sing for a mate, eye you with suspicion or scorn - or so it seems. Decipher their language with . Don't let this avian conversation go on all around you without some clue of what they're saying. Join the "bull session in the barn" tomorrow, March 9, starting at 5:30 p.m. at Tara Firma Farms. It includes potluck, music, open mic and more; $10 donation appreciated.
Okay, it's now Saturday night, which means the all-female tribute band Zepparella takes the stage at the Mystic, with their guitarist Gretchen Menn playing an opening set as well. It's just possible there are fans even in Petaluma for this retro-rock, so don't be surprised if there's a line out the door and you can't get in. So get there early! Doors open at 8, the bands start at 9, the tickets are $19.
By the way, next weekend the hip-hop capital of Sonoma County slouches into full crunk with KRS-One at the Mystic. Check out Dan Taylor's round-up of the scene in today's Press Democrat.
Not too much on the calendar for Sunday, except the reminder that it's later than you think - remember to turn the clocks one hour ahead before you go to bed on Saturday.)
Having said that we're sure there are howls of protest from some who say, "Yes there is!" Ah, we say, but it's not in the Patch Events calendar. So enter your event where everyone can find it with a new listing, okay?
