Trader Joe's Recalls Peanut Butter Over Salmonella Concerns

Trader Joe’s has announced a recall of its peanut butter over concerns that it may be contaminated with salmonella.

The Monrovia-based grocery retailer announced a voluntary recall Friday of its Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter.

The company said it was recalling the product “out of an abundance of caution” but added that it had no confirmed information suggesting the peanut butter was unsafe to eat.

“There is nothing more important to us than the health and safety of our customers and crew, and the quality of our products,” read a statement on the company’s website.

Trader Joe’s is offering refunds on the product.

Salmonella can cause diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection. The illness usually lasts four to seven days.
