Sports run deep in Petaluma, and Petaluma High School has long been at the heart of it. It’s no surprise some standout talent once wore the Trojans uniform. Today we're celebrating five unforgettable athletes from Petaluma High School who made a name for themselves well beyond the hometown field.


1. Ben Bostrom – Motorcycle Racing (Superbike)

Former Trojan Ben Bostrom became one of the most recognizable American motorcycle racers of his era, competing at the highest levels of Superbike racing in the U.S. and internationally. Known for both his aggressive riding style and outspoken personality, he won multiple AMA Superbike championships before stepping away from full-time competition and embracing life as a “professional dad.” (Sources: Press Democrat, Moto Sprint)


2. Konrad Schmidt – MLB Catcher (Arizona Diamondbacks)

After playing at Petaluma High School, Konrad Schmidt continued his baseball career at Santa Rosa Junior College and later at the University of Arizona and the University of Nevada. He signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2007 and steadily worked his way through the minor leagues, earning a Southern League All-Star selection at Double-A. He made his Major League Baseball debut in September 2010, recording his first MLB hit as a starting catcher at Dodger Stadium. (Source: AZ Snake Pit)

3. Duke Iverson – Professional Football Player (New York Giants)

A Petaluma High School alumnus, Duke Iversen went on to play collegiate football at the University of Oregon, where he lettered four times before serving as a Marine combat trainer during World War II. He was selected in the seventh round of the 1947 NFL Draft by the New York Giants and went on to play five professional seasons in the AAFC and NFL with the Giants and New York Yankees/Yanks. During his career, he appeared in 46 games and recorded his most productive season in 1950, when he returned an interception for a touchdown. (Sources: Pro Football Reference, Find a Grave)


4. Hollie Pardini – Collegiate Softball Player

After her time at Petaluma High School, Hollie Pardini continued her softball career at Georgetown University, joining the Hoyas as a catcher. She's contributed defensively behind the plate and continues to appear regularly in the lineup, marking a strong transition into Division I athletics. (Source: GU Hoyas)

5. Sarah Peters – Multi-Sport Athlete (Basketball, Soccer, Football)

Sarah Peters distinguished herself as a rare three-sport competitor, excelling in basketball, soccer and football. She earned varsity letters in all three sports at Petaluma High School, gaining statewide attention for competing as a placekicker on the football team. She went on to play women’s soccer at UC Davis, starting in goal and posting a 1.12 goals-against average with 57 saves and four shutouts en route to all-Big West Conference second-team honors as a junior.
