Witnesses Keep DUI Driver At Scene Of Petaluma Crash: Police

A repeat DUI offender who flipped his car onto a Petaluma sidewalk was allegedly driving with a BAC greater than four times the legal limit.

PETALUMA, CA — A Petaluma man previously convicted of two DUIs was back in jail Sunday after crashing his car onto a sidewalk, where it landed upside down, police said. Andrew Feltrop, 32, of Petaluma, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and violation of probation following the crash on Lakeville Street, according to Petaluma police Sgt. Lance Novello.

The sergeant said officers responded at 9:24 p.m. Sunday to calls about the crash at Lakeville and Petaluma Boulevard North and discovered a Honda Civic on its roof on the sidewalk.

Witnesses told police the driver, later identified as Feltrop, was able to remove himself from the vehicle.

The witnesses kept Feltrop from walking away from the scene of the crash, Novello said.

When officers made contact with Feltrop, he allegedly showed "extreme signs of alcohol impairment."

"According to witnesses, Feltrop was speeding southbound on Petaluma Boulevard North, turned eastbound onto Lakeville Street, and failed to negotiate the turn," Novello said. "His vehicle drove onto the sidewalk, between a phone pole and building, and its wheel got caught up on the pole’s support wire. The vehicle traveled up the wire to the point it flipped onto its roof."

When tested, Feltrop's preliminary blood-alcohol percentage was allegedly greater than four times the legal limit to drive.

He denied suffering any injuries in the crash but was transported to the hospital to be medically cleared before being booked into Sonoma County jail, Novello said.

Police said Feltrop was on probation and prohibited from drinking alcohol, and records show he had two prior DUIs.
