Woman Accused In Attempted Stabbing In Petaluma

The victim told police he used a bicycle to protect himself from being struck by the knife-wielding suspect.

PETALUMA, CA — A woman is accused in an attempted stabbing reported Tuesday at Lucceshi Park, according to the Petaluma Police Department.

Officers responded at 7:19 p.m. Tuesday to the south side of the park and spoke to the victim, a 30-year-old man who said he was lying on the ground near the Community Center when a woman ran around the building yelling obscenities while holding a kitchen knife.

"The female suspect made a slashing motion at him, so used a nearby bicycle to protect himself from being struck," Petaluma police Lt. Tim Lyons said. "He said he ran away and thought she had left, but that she returned, and he had to jump over a fence to protect himself. The victim did not sustain any injuries."

Officers checked the area for Coleman, 35, but did not immediately find her.

Around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, the victim called the police department and reported Coleman's location on North McDowell Boulevard.

Officers responded and spoke with Coleman.

"Coleman claimed that the victim started the altercation and it stemmed from a previous assault in April," Lyons said.

A knife was recovered from Coleman's backpack, according to police.

Coleman was booked into the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. She was still in custody Thursday morning with her bail set at $30,000, jail records showed.
