Woman Arrested With Gun In Petaluma Marina Domestic Assault: PD

Petaluma police said the 54-year-old refused to exit the cabin of a boat where the domestic battery allegedly happened.

PETALUMA, CA — A 54-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday in Petaluma on suspicion of domestic battery, possession of a concealed firearm and other charges after police responded at 11:08 a.m. to a report of a domestic assault on a boat in the Petaluma Marina.

"Upon arrival, officers located the victim who reported the suspect, Patricia Carpenter had struck him several times in the face during an argument," Petaluma police Sgt. Aaron Garihan said in a news release. "The victim had visible injuries to his eye and cheek. The victim also stated he was missing a small revolver that he kept on the boat and was fearful Carpenter had possession of it."

Officers tried to speak with Carpenter but she allegedly refused for over an hour to exit the boat's cabin area. At one point officers used a loudspeaker but Carpenter did not cooperate, according to Garihan.

A few hours later, officers caught up with her in the parking lot of the Sheraton Hotel near the marina. As she was being taken into custody a .22-caliber revolver was allegedly found in her purse.

A restraining order against Carpenter in a previous domestic violence incident prohibits her from owning or possessing a firearm, Garihan said.

Further, under her current terms of probation she is prohibited from drinking alcohol and must submit to random chemical testing, the sergeant said.

A test measured she had a blood-alcohol content of .237 percent, Garihan said.

Carpenter was booked into Sonoma County jail on suspicion of felony domestic battery, possession of a concealed loaded firearm, violation of a domestic violence restraining order, and delaying or resisting arrest.

Carpenter remained in custody Thursday with her bail set at $30,000.
