Woman Becomes Fatally Trapped Under Car In Petaluma: Police

The woman was rushed to a hospital where she later died, police said.

PETALUMA, CA — A Petaluma woman died after she became trapped beneath her own car, police said.

Petaluma police and fire personnel were dispatched at 5:50 p.m. Friday to Glen Eagle Drive and Country Club Drive and found the woman trapped under her car but conscious and alert at that time, Petaluma police Sgt. Walt Spiller said.

Once fire department personnel freed the victim from beneath her car, she was rushed to a hospital where she later died, the sergeant said.

The police department's preliminary investigation showed the victim’s vehicle somehow rolled out of a driveway, onto Glen Eagle Drive and started down a hill.

"The victim attempted to give chase, fell to the ground and was ran over and became trapped," Spiller said.

At publication time Monday, police said there were no other known involved parties.

The identity of the victim, a 72-year-old woman, was being withheld until her family members were properly notified.

The Petaluma Police Department Traffic Unit was continuing its investigation of the collision and asked anyone who witnessed it or has any information to contact Traffic Officer David Hutchinson at 707-781-1290.
