Rare fire phenomenon rises in Phelan's Trinity fire (thestate.com) — Fire crews battling Phelan’s Trinity Fire recently witnessed a rare “ash devil,” a spinning column of hot ash and embers that can sometimes start new spot fires. Officials explain how these vortices form, note that this one dissipated without causing new blazes, and report the fire has burned 19 acres with no structures lost but some Joshua trees damaged.
• April 20–26 Operation Consequences Nets 31 Firearms, 23 Arrests Across San Bernardino County (vvng.com) — Phelan is one of several San Bernardino County communities targeted in Operation Consequences, where deputies recently seized 31 firearms and made 23 arrests in a weeklong crime suppression push.
