2 Year Old Boy Killed By AC Transit Bus

OAKLAND, CA — A 2-year-old boy was struck and killed by a bus in Oakland this afternoon, according to police.

An Alameda-Contra Costa Transit bus heading north on 35th Avenue near Penniman Avenue hit the child shortly before 2 p.m., police said. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Oakland police are investigating how it happened.

"This is a sad and tragic loss for the family and our community," police said in a statement.

AC Transit spokesman Robert Lyles said the incident involved bus Line 54. Some detours were necessary as 35th Avenue was shut down for the investigation.
