Annual MLK Jr. Celebration this Monday in Piedmont

The Piedmont Appreciating Diversity Committee will host the city's annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration.

The Piedmont Appreciating Diversity Committee (PADC) will host the city’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration – free and open to the public -- at the Piedmont Community Center from 1:00 to 4:00 pm on Monday, January 19. The theme of this year’s celebration is Fairness for All, with a focus on recent events in Ferguson and elsewhere in the United States.

This year’s event will feature performances by the Piedmont East Bay Children’s Choir’s Ecco Choir, Oakland School for the Art’s One Voice Choir, and the Oaktown Jazz Workshop. The celebration will also include spoken word performances by students from Piedmont and Millennium High Schools and Piedmont Middle School. Speakers representing state government, the Mayor’s office, and the Piedmont Police Department will discuss Dr. King and his legacy. Snacks and beverages will be for sale.

PADC is a non-profit, Piedmont-based organization; our mission is to promote and practice inclusiveness, foster an appreciation of differences, and increase global awareness. The Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration is sponsored by PADC and the City of Piedmont with support from the Piedmont Asian American Club.
