3rd Annual book drive August 21- September 5
Havens Community Service Crew is supporting our 3rd annual Back to School Book Drive benefitting East Bay Agency for Children! Bring gently used or new books appropriate for preschool and school age children between August 21 (First Day of School) through September 5 (Back to School Night) to the donation bins on campus.
Reading at home is one of the best predictors of academic success for children. Yet, many children in Oakland have few, if any, books at home. East Bay Agency for Children (EBAC) offers children living in these under-resourced neighborhoods many support services to help them achieve academic success. Books collected through Havens’ school-wide book drive will be distributed to these children so they, too, may read at home.

Many of the books Havens’ families donated last year were distributed to children at a school Fall Harvest Festival. The children’s eyes lit up when they were told they could each select two books. With a look of amazement, one 2nd grader said, “For free?” Yes, for free.
Over the past two years, Havens’ students have collected over 500 books for EBAC. Let’s make this year even bigger than the last two years! Bring your donations to the bins on campus and in Schoolmates.
