EAST BAY CHILDREN'S THEATRE MAKING WISHES COME TRUE FOR 84 YEARS
"Aladdin and the Lamp" An in-GENIE-ous New Musical
East Bay Children’s Theatre, the Bay Area’s oldest continuously-operating theatre company, is already creating quite a buzz with its latest production--and it hasn’t even opened to the public yet.
The venerated company has been bringing live theatre to disadvantaged school children free of charge since 1933.
And now, for their 84th season, EBCT is presenting a world-premiere musical: ALADDIN AND THE LAMP. Early demand for tickets to the four public shows has been unprecedented. This is certainly music to the ears of the EBCT board. Their public shows help to subsidize the free elementary school tours. And it is those tours, which are at the heart of the company’s mission.

Based on the timeless "Arabian Nights" tale, ALADDIN AND THE LAMP retells the familiar story of a boy who is lost on the highway of life. After being trapped by a comical villain (Felonioso); Aladdin falls in love, discovers a magical lamp and its occupant (Gene E. Schwartz), changes his ways, and finally learns what it truly means to be “like a man.”
EBCT has commissioned award-winning playwright and composer Ron Lytle to create another high-flying, crowd-pleasing family musical, and ALADDIN AND THE LAMP will not disappoint. The colorful and lively production is filled with the trademark twists and witty wordplay that audiences have come to expect from a Lytle show.
