She will address why values and coping skills matter more than grades, trophies or “fat” envelopes from selective college admissions offices, how a parent's hopes and fears about a child's success can affect parenting, and how certain strategies can encourage children to find their own definitions of success rather than conform to a narrow, academic definition of accomplishment. Levine is also the co-founder of the non-profit Challenge Success, a program of the Stanford School of Education that addresses education reform and student well-being.

Levine's last appearance in Piedmont sold out early. Seating is limited. The only way to reserve a seat for this event is by signing up for the Speaker Series for $50. Registration is open now via the Piedmont Adult School Moonlighter (http://piedmontadultschool.org/c_lectures.aspx). [Editor's note: the Piedmont Adult School website appeared to be having problems Oct. 21. Other speakers include Dr. Cheryl Wozniak on reading research, Bruce Valentine from the Sports Medicine Center for Young Athletes at Children's Hospital, and Stephanie Rafanelli, a school coach and a parent education facilitator for Challenge Success, on current topics in K-12 education.

The series is presented by the Piedmont Unified School District, the Piedmont Adult School and the Associated Parent Clubs of Piedmont.
