Firefighters Save 17 Dogs From House Fire (Video)

OAKLAND, CA — More than a dozen dogs were saved when a two-alarm fire broke out at an East Oakland house Saturday evening, according to fire officials.

The fire was first reported at around 6 p.m. at a two-story home at 2445 108th Ave., according to fire officials.

Inside the home, firefighters found numerous dogs. Firefighters were able to save 17 dogs, fire officials said.

Firefighters however were unable to save all the dogs and some reportedly died in the fire, according to a fire dispatcher. The number of dogs that died in the fire was not immediately available.

The dogs that were saved were ultimately handed to Oakland Animal Control police officers and taken to an animal hospital, the dispatcher said.

By about 7:10 p.m., firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control, according to the dispatcher.

None of the home's residents were displaced and no people were injured during the incident, the dispatcher said.

A cause for the fire remains under investigation.
