Laney College Receives Grant To Help Undocumented Students

OAKLAND, CA —Laney College in Oakland has received a $125,000 grant to increase services for undocumented and mixed-status students and their families, the school announced Friday.

The grant from the California Campus Catalyst Fund will allow Laney College to create a three-year plan to broaden services such as career and college counseling, legal services and access to health and wellness
programs.

Laney was one of 32 schools to receive the grant.

"Undocumented young people and their families are integral to the social, economic, and cultural fabric of California, and as such, support for them needs to be woven into our state's higher education system," Victor
Garcia of Immigrants Rising, a San Francisco-based nonprofit that is administering the fund, said in a statement.

"At Laney we truly strive to educate, support, and inspire students to excel in an inclusive and diverse learning environment rooted in social justice," college president Tammeil Gilkerson said in a statement. "We
are grateful for the vision of the Catalyst Fund and their support."
