Elderly SF Couple 'Violently' Robbed At Gunpoint; Suspects Arrested: Police

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Two men were arrested Wednesday after "violently" robbing an elderly couple at gunpoint outside their San Francisco home, authorities said.

Police say the suspect was returning to their home along Melra Court in the Ingleside neighborhood around 5:25 p.m. when a man walked up to them and started assaulting them.

The suspect demanded a purse from the couple and tried ripping a necklace from one of them before pulling out a gun and pointing it at them, the San Francisco Police Department said in a video statement Tuesday.

The couple gave up cash, a phone and credit cards to the suspect, who got in a waiting car and left, police said.

"They have a gun," a man can be heard telling officers as they respond to the scene. "They went that way."

Officers identified

Using surveillance footage and help from SFPD's and Daly City's Real Time Investigation Center, officers identified the vehicle and learned it had been stolen days earlier during a "hot-prowl" residential burglary, police said.

Eventually, they tracked the vehicle to Sixth and Minna Streets, where they began monitoring the area, police said.

There, officers learned the suspects had parked the vehicle and gone to a nearby hotel, police said.

When they came out, officers took them into custody in connection with the robbery, police said.

While searching the suspects, officers found a loaded semi-automatic firearm, the couple's items and a large sum of cash, police said.

Inside the car, officers found more stolen property and evidence connected with the robbery, police said.

The suspects, identified by police as Richmond residents Lamont Jackson, 54, and Joe Saelee, 32, were both booked on suspicion of robbery, assault with a firearm, possession of a stolen vehicle, and multiple firearms-related offenses.

The case remains under investigation, police said. The SFPD asked that anyone with more information on the robbery contact the agency at 415-575-4444.
