Local Actress Returns for 20th Season with East Bay Children's Theatre

"There's No Business Like Shoe Business" a Family Musical.

East Bay Children’s Theatre was founded in 1933. For the past two decades, actress Barbara Sloane has been an important staple in the venerable company.

“This is my 20th year with EBCT and I’ve played everything from a queen to a carrot!” the actress quips. “I got involved with EBCT soon after I retired from teaching, because I began my career as a drama teacher and wanted to return to my first love. I enjoy being with children--without grading papers! I appreciate EBCT’s mission of introducing children to classic tales in a musical setting.”

The mission of East Bay Children’s Theatre is to bring live theatre to underserved, Title 1 elementary schools in the East Bay. The company provides this indispensible service free of charge to the schools it serves.

“East Bay Children’s Theatre is important because the arts have nearly vanished from public schools,” Sloane say. “I believe that the EBCT plays expand the students’ imaginations and horizons.”

East Bay Children’s Theatre presents the musical “There’s No Business Like Shoe Business” (based on the Grimm Bros fairy tale The Shoemaker and the Elves) at JCC East Bay in Berkeley (March 15, at 1:30 and 3:30), and Town Hall Theatre in Lafayette (March 22, at 1:30 and 3:30.)
