
OAKLAND, CA — A 69-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run collision in East Oakland early this morning, according to police.
A preliminary investigation found that a black compact-size vehicle was traveling west in the 9200 block of MacArthur Boulevard at about 1:20 a.m. and struck a pedestrian who was in the roadway, police said.
After stopping momentarily, the driver fled in the vehicle without providing any information or waiting for emergency personal, according to police.

Firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene but the pedestrian, who was an Oakland resident, succumbed to his injuries at the scene, police said.
Authorities are withholding the man's name pending notification of his family of the death.

Police said they do not yet know if drugs or alcohol were factors in the fatal collision.
