New Startup Helps Teachers Afford Homes in the Bay Area
Piedmont Ca real estate agent broker associate Anian Tunney discusses new startup Landed.

Landed is a startup founded by recent Stanford Grads Alex Lofton and Jonathan Asmis which provides a pool of money from investors to pay for half of a 20 percent down payment in exchange for a 25 percent stake in the future equity of the home. (1)
The startup targets teachers in the area, as well as other members of the Bay Area community looking to purchase a home in this expensive market. The Bay Area’s median home price is currently $755,000, which increased over 8 percent from a year ago. By county, the median home price in San Mateo County is $1.2 million, Alameda county is $755,000, and Santa Clara County is nearly $1 million.
The investors have provided millions of dollars in startup money, and the first group of teachers are expected to have half of their down payment funded this fall. The investors can receive the return on their investment in 7 to 10 years. If the homeowners are not ready to sell, then Landed will help them renegotiate with a new set of investors.
