Oakland Burglary Suspect Surrenders Following Standoff

Police blocked off the street during the standoff to protect residents.

OAKLAND, CA — A burglary suspect was caught in the act and surrendered to police after a standoff in East Oakland this morning, police said.

Police responded at 10:22 a.m. to the burglary at a home in the 7500 block of Ney Avenue, a few blocks from the Eastmont Town Center, police said.

Responding officers realized the suspect was still inside so they surrounded the home and ordered anyone inside to come out.

As of about 11 a.m., Ney was closed between 75th and 76th avenues.

Police ordered residents not to leave their homes and brought dogs into the area.

Eventually, the suspect, an Oakland man, came out of the home and surrendered. Police did not immediately identify the man and said the investigation was ongoing.
