Organizing…the older kitchen

The Charming Older Kitchen...
Old houses are certainly charming, until you get to organizing an old kitchen…lack of plugs, lack of counter space, lack of cabinets and drawers, lack of a pantry…all these things can create a serious problem for the homeowner who needs to function while waiting for the remodel.

Client profile:  a busy Berkeley professor

Challenge:  unpacking and organizing an older Berkeley kitchen…needing to house modern appliances

First look:  fairly typical older Berkeley house, cute, but barely functional.  Previous owner did little updating and until the client can renovate, has to live in the house as it is

Strategy: unpack, see what’s there and find the best solutions possible (click on photo to enlarge)

This kitchen is cute, but barely functional in 2013…

What we did: Little things sure add up in this kitchen…(click on photo to enlarge).  Having glasses that are stackable, corralling the plastic drinking bottles, placing larger bowls higher up and smaller items lower.  And above all, keeping out the clutter.  Only the things which are absolutely needed are out.
